Pam Shockley-Zalabak, Ph.D., joined RH Perry & Associates in 2023 after more than 35 years in higher education. She is Chancellor and Professor Emerita of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) and the author of 9 books and over 100 other publications and productions. Dr. Shockley-Zalabak is the President of CommuniCon, Inc., an organizational and leadership development corporation, with clients in the U.S. and Europe. Prior to assuming the UCCS Chancellor position, she had served as the Vice Chancellor for Student Success and was the founding member of the UCCS Communication Department.
During Dr. Shockley-Zalabak’s over fifteen years as Chancellor of UCCS, the campus increased in enrollment by 75% to over 12,500 students. Diversity of the campus increased among students, faculty, and staff. She fostered new academic programs in all colleges of the University and was part of an over $500,000,000 facilities expansion. She was engaged with bringing a branch medical campus of the CU School of Medicine to UCCS. During her tenure the campus achieved record fund raising levels, a successful accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission, and a statutory expansion of the UCCS role and mission for the State of Colorado. Throughout her administrative career, she continued to teach and conduct research. She has been awarded numerous University of Colorado system awards and multiple awards from the Colorado Springs community including the Inspirational Leader Spirit of the Springs Award from the Mayor of Colorado Springs. While she was Chancellor, the Student Government Association awarded her the Student’s Choice Award for Educator of the Year. She is the recipient of the Frederic M. Jablin Award for Outstanding Contributions to Organizational Communication presented by the International Communication Association.
In leading CommuniCon, Inc., Shockley-Zalabak and her colleagues have worked with 200 + for-profit and non-profit organizations throughout the U.S., Europe, Russia, China, India, and Poland. She has recently completed serving as the Acting CEO of the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum. Her consulting work has included both public and private institutions of higher education. She is a Boettcher Foundation Trustee, chair of the Pikes Peak Real Estate Foundation Board, Chair of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and works with numerous non-profits in Colorado. Shockley-Zalabak is the executive producer of the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum’s award-winning series, Becoming Your Personal Best: Life Lessons from Olympians and Paralympians. Her consulting work specializes in high performing teams, conflict management, and total resource development strategies.
Shockley-Zalabak earned a doctorate in organizational communication from the University of Colorado Boulder. She received both undergraduate and master’s degrees from Oklahoma State University. She lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
