Dr. Gena Glickman, retired president of Massasoit Community College and president emerita, Manchester Community College, has a breadth of experience in higher education, beginning as a career counselor and culminating in 12 years as a community college president. Her background encompasses a distinguished career of more than 40 years in public and private community colleges and universities, including experience leading a college through significant change with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gena has served as vice president for academic and student affairs; associate provost for the University of Baltimore and assistant dean for the School of Law at the university; dean of the college at Maryland College of Art and Design; executive director for curriculum development and evaluation at Harford Community College; assistant to the vice president for academic affairs at Baltimore City College; and as a tenured faculty member at Essex Community College [now the Community College of Baltimore County, Essex Campus]. She currently serves as adjunct graduate faculty for Johnson & Wales University and the University of Maryland Global Campus, as well as a consultant for The Center for Collaborative Leadership, UMass Dartmouth.
Dr. Glickman received the Distinguished Alumna Award from the Johns Hopkins School of Education; the Faculty Mentor Award from University of Maryland College Park; Outstanding Administrator, Maryland Association of Higher Education; and a service award from Black Law Student’s Association at the University of Baltimore. She received a Businesswoman of the Year award from the Hartford Business Journal and was recognized with a Leadership Excellence Award for District 1 by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Under her leadership, Manchester Community College was recognized by The Aspen Institute for two programs: The Community College Research Center’s Guide on Transfer, and one of Aspen’s Top 150 community colleges. Manchester was designated a top workplace by The Hearst Media Group.
Dr. Glickman has written numerous articles on higher education issues and served as President of the Greater Hartford Arts Council; Treasurer, Eastern Connecticut Community Foundation; and as a board member of the Hartford Area Consortium for Higher Education. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board for the Commission on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Previous service includes the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), College Board Community College President’s Advisory Council, Commission of the American Associate of Community Colleges (AACC), and the Commission for the Advancement of Race and Ethnicity for the American Council on Education (ACE). In addition, she has led several regional accreditation teams for specialized institutions, community colleges, and to oversee a special report for the merger of the Corcoran School of Art with George Washington University.
Dr. Glickman holds a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, a Master of Science degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Education, and a Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Planning from the University of Maryland, College Park.
