JOANNE BASHFORD is a higher education consultant with 25 years of experience working in community colleges. She is passionate about helping all students have the opportunity to enroll, and most importantly, to succeed in their higher educational endeavors.

Her career in community colleges includes serving as the President of Miami Dade College’s InterAmerican Campus, which is a very diverse campus of 19,000 students located in historic Little Havana. In this role, she also had responsibility for the College’s School of Education with programs ranging from credit and non-credit certificates to bachelor’s degrees, and the College’s Learning Resources departments, which included libraries, computer courtyards and an array of academic support services. Joanne also served as Associate Vice President for Developmental Education and Student Success at Broward College, Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness at Miami Dade College and held additional positions in institutional research and college testing and evaluation. Prior to joining Miami Dade College, Joanne worked in the Personnel Department of the City of Pittsburgh developing and administering selection instruments for all civil service positions, and as a Career Counselor for an independent firm working with at-risk populations in western Pennsylvania.

As campus president, Joanne developed strong ties with the Little Havana and Miami communities including serving as Vice-Chair of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, serving on the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce’s Business & Governmental Affairs Committee, collaborating with the Historic Trust for National Preservation on a Master Plan for the Little Havana community, and serving on the Boards of Viernes Culturales and Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center.

As a coach for Achieving the Dream, Joanne has worked with eight community colleges to assist them in building capacity and effectively addressing student success challenges to increase completion rates. In her consulting work, Joanne facilitates workshops, conducts special studies, and assists colleges in areas such as strategic planning, research and evaluation planning, grant development, and learning outcomes assessment. Her experience includes conducting environmental scans and SWOT analyses, developing curriculum, contributing to publications on developmental education practices and effective use of data, and serving on accreditation visiting teams.

Joanne holds a Doctorate in Education from Florida International University, a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Florida.
