Dr. Gregory Thomas has thirty years of higher education experience. Most recently Dr. Thomas served as President of Kennedy-King College (KKC), from July 2018-July 2022. Under his leadership, Kennedy-King College was named in Forbes Magazine (2021) as one of the top ten community colleges in the nation and number one in the state of Illinois via Academic Influence Rankings. Further, the Mayor of Chicago presented a City Resolution recognizing Kennedy-King College’s significant community and student impact and the multiple accomplishments experienced at KKC during Dr. Thomas’ tenure as President. Dr. Thomas successfully guided the College’s first Strategic Planning Process and also successfully developed and implemented the first Strategic Enrollment Management Plan and first Equity Plan in the College’s history. In addition, Dr. Thomas led the College through a very successful Higher Learning Commission (HLC) reaccreditation process in 2019.  During his tenure, Kennedy-King College generated nearly $17 Millions in fundraising, to include an unrestricted $5 million donation from the MacKenzie Scott Foundation, which was the largest single gift in the history of the City College of Chicago System.

Prior to joining KKC, Dr. Thomas served as the Vice President of Student Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights (IL); Associate Provost at Des Moines Area Community College (IA); Vice President of Student Affairs at Weatherford College (TX); Dean of Student Affairs at Hillsborough Community College (FL); Executive Director of Enrollment Management and Deputy Vice President of Student Affairs at City University of New York (NY); and Assistant Academic Dean & Faculty at Trinity University (Washington, DC). Dr. Thomas has worked in both union and non-union college environments. He has worked in urban, suburban, and rural community colleges at the senior administrative level throughout the United States and occupied senior leadership positions in single campus community colleges and in large complex urban/suburban multi-campus community college systems. In addition, Dr. Thomas has served in small private liberal arts universities and public four year colleges.

Dr. Thomas has a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Iowa State University (IA); a M.A. in Teaching from Trinity University (DC); a BA in Communications from Howard University (DC); and studied Liberal Arts at Kingsborough Community College (NY).
